Welcome to the Farmington Community Center. Thanks for taking the time to visit our site, we’re happy to have you.

The Farmington Community Center has a long history in the community, as many students walked the halls of the old schoolhouse and made many memories.   Today, those former students and members of the community are making new memories.

Laura Mathis, the previous director, worked diligently to preserve both the buildings and the history.  The community will be forever indebted to her for the work and passion she poured into the Farmington Community Center.  Under her care, the center and the community received distinction on the National Register of Historic Places and the buildings received a major renovation.  Because of the hard work of Laura, countless volunteers and the generous donations we have received, this place has become more than just a facility that holds a lot of memories. It now is a place were families can come to not only reminiscence of days gone by, but one in which to make new memories to share for generations to come. We’re a facility that is full of life, an organization that is growing, and an important piece of Farmington history that is still thriving.

As the Executive Director, it is my mission to continue the good work that has already been completed at the center and to further enhance the facilities and the programs available each week. We continually work to care for the buildings and lands as we work to enhance the programming and amenities.  We completed a $100,000 refurbishment project in 2017 and in 2021 we added additional parking, a mountain biking pump track, a 21-basket Davie Disc Golf Course, and additional miles of track in our Nature Park.  Thanks to groups like Ruritans and Boy Scouts, we have an additional picnic shelter, Free Little Library, a tree identification project and many more additions.

The Farmington Community Center is more than a set of buildings and a piece of land.  It is a place of activity and service for the community.  Come find your place at the Center with…

  • Kids and teens who use the facilities for club meetings
  • Kids and adults playing ball on the field
  • Musicians tuning their instruments for the weekly Bluegrass and Country Jam nights
  • Farmers coming to sell their produce at the Farmers Market
  • Local families using the facilities for special occasions
  • Nature lovers coming out to explore the Nature Park and hike the trail

It takes a lot of work to keep up a facility like this and there is always something that needs to be done.  Being a non-profit means that we have to rely heavily on the dedication of volunteers and we are so appreciative of those who give of their time, talents, and resources to keep the Center thriving. We are proud to have recently been approved as a certifying organization with the President’s Volunteer Service Award program.  Volunteers will now be rewarded on a national level for their hours of service and recognized for their great contribution of valuable time.

It is an honor to serve this organization and the surrounding community.  I hope that you will come by to visit the Farmington Community Center soon to see for yourself what makes this place special and maybe to make some memories of your own.

Warmest Regards,
Melanie Forbes Cook
Executive Director
